Nova Southeastern University (NSU) successfully migrated its campus card system from the on-premise IDMS to the cloud-based EliteID platform using a phased approach. This strategy allowed NSU to meet its strategic cloud goals cost-effectively without disrupting critical campus operations. We detail how EliteID’s open architecture enabled seamless integration with existing legacy systems while the primary credentialing service ran in the cloud. A major win: utilizing the same core on-premise database as IDMS simplified data mapping, accelerating the transition. Attendees will learn how NSU leveraged this continuity and chose an open platform solution capable of integrating with diverse higher ed transaction systems, proving you can achieve cloud goals without a costly ‘rip and replace.’
Discussion Questions:
1. How many of you currently have a campus-wide mandate to move core systems to the cloud, but are struggling with which one to tackle first?
2. If you’re already considering a cloud system, what is the single biggest fear you have about disconnecting it from your existing, mission-critical legacy systems (like door access or dining)?
